Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant
layer
of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such
as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will
continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:

A spam program can also cause this.

This keeps happening to the POP3 addresses of all my accounts,
interfering
with mail collection. It can be temporarily reset, but re-occurs when

is re-started.

Hi Bruce,
thanks for your help.
In this case I've found that it's is due to McAfee Spamkiller, which
"collects" all e-mail, filters, then passes on to OE using this IP
address.
The problem was caused by an incorrect setting in Spamkiller causing
mail-collection problems, also for some reason it was blocking some
"personal" e-mails.
As I have an "OEM" version (no manual) I only found out the above after
searching the McAfee website prompted by your origional suggestion of
e-mail
scanning being implicated!
Best regards
Martin Potter
