Doesn't a new window pop up after combine and decode? Preview Pane isn't an
option then.

You will only see that if the Preview pane is open, or if you open a yenc
message. Turn off the preview pane when you're working in binaries
newsgroups. You can add a button to the news toolbar to toggle that.
