By Workflow, do you mean anything automatic? Only the Compact prompt you

Address Book problems.
Unsent templates appearing as sent.
Manually compacting will now reset the registry counter to Zero in WinXP/SP2
and also sends a copy of your dbx files to the recycle bin as a temporary
backup.

open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything
until the compacting is completed.

You already figured out ho to tell the size of the dbx files. For
non-newsgroups, we usually recommend keeping them under 100MB. But that
is a precaution so you don't lose e-mail messages. OE only mirrors what
is on the server, so there is no worries about losing newsgroup messages
as long as they are on the server, since you can Reset and download them
again.

Newsgroups do remove messages after a period of time, so if you have
anything in particular you want to save, drag it to a user created folder
for archiving.
