Default Newbie Outlook question on error "Unable to locate any profiles on this computer"

To read mail, I start up Outlook Express from Internet Explorer, so not
sure why/how the Earthlink software gets involved. My provider is
Cox.net, I have never used Earthlink.
So now I removed the Earthlink software in
START - Settings - Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs -
....removed all three Earthlink programs...

As a result, when I try to read an attachment in Outlook Express, I get
now get a new error saying

"Windows cannot find MailClnt.exe.
This program is needed for opening files of type 'Earthlink Mail
Message'.
Type in the executable file to be used instead:
(....entry field here...)
"
So how do I switch off the apparently remaining Earthlink involvment?

Wolfgang.

Earthlink software is being used and it includes OE as the email client.

Change the default email program to just Outlook Express. First try in START
| All Programs | Set Program Access and Defaults.

Click on Custom srrow to expand it then change the default to just Outlook
Express. Earthlink may show there as well.
