Default Deleted account still downloading

I added an account to Outlook Express to test a customer's email account (we
control the email server), "Leaving a copy of the message on server".

Once I had made sure the account was working correctly I removed the
account.

This account is still connecting to the mail server and downloading messages
from my IP address, and is conflicting with my customer who is trying to
download from a different IP address.

Although we can see the messages being downloaded from the mail server we
cannot find the downloaded messages on the client pc. (There is only one pc
at the offending IP Address)

I have double checked that the account had not been imported into Outlook.

Has someone come across this "phenomenon" before, and do you have the
solution to stop my pc from downloading these messages?
