On a somewhat related issue, my Outbox is empty - or so it seems - but
when I navigate to Outbox.dbx and "Open with" Wordpad, there are reams
and reams of posts and emails showing. Can I safely delete them, or
is it OK to delete Outbox.dbx entirely so that it can be re-created?
Also, why are they still there when they were sent ages ago?

Usually you can clear that by clicking on Catch-up in the contect
menu.
