Problem connecting to newsgroups
Unfortunately, my ISP uses a foreign country for its call centre. They
have a set of questions they ask you - even if they are totally
irrelevant - and if you deviate even slightly from the script, as it
were, the staff are totally stumped. And woe betide you if you use
colloquial English! I am seriously considering changing my ISP for
that reason, but that`s another subject. Still, I may give them a
chance to redeem themselves and put this problem to them.

You are accessing a different area when you access newsgroups, so
being able
to send and receive your email doesn't rule out problems with your
ISP.

: when I move to a NG up pops the message. I have taken to shouting
: at the monitor : I DO have a connection, you stupid machine!
: Doesn`t help, though...

: The same thing happened last year and I was given lots of
advice by
: this NG. Fortunately, I saved the whole thread and was able to
try

: it could have been after I cancelled a message on a news
server,
: although that may be a coincidence. However, I unsubscribed to
all
: the newsgroups listed, confirmed that their .dbx files had been
: removed, and then re-subscribed, just in case, but I still get
this
: most irritating message. I am now out of ideas, and hope that
: someone
: can tell me what has gone wrong, and how to correct it, please.
:
: Incidentally, I have an ADSL router, Windows XP Home, and I
: regularly
: download Windows Updates.

: Many thanks
