Make sure the backup does not have the Read Only attribute checked.
Read Only would be checked if the backup came from a CD.

: No.
: If it does not exist OE won't see the DBX file when you put it there.
: 1. Open OE.
: 2. Create a folder with _exactly_ the same name.
: 3. Open the folder.
: 4. Close OE.
: 5. Overwrite the new DBX file with the backed up file.

: Thanks Frank. Can I infer from your reply post that
: ANY file that previuosly existed in OE can be directly
: replaced by a backup copy?

: Yes, as long as the folder you want to restore exists in OE. Since OE
: will always recreate Sent Items if one does not exist, your specific
: example will work.

: When attempting to restore a OE dbx file (which
: of course corresponds to a "folder" in OE) from
: backups of the entire OE folder, can one simply
: restore the single file, or is there some sort of
: interdependency with the "Folders.dbx" file. For
: example, if a group of e-mails were deleted from
: the "Sent Items" folder, and the "Deleted Items"
: folder had also been emptied, could one simply
: restore a previously saved copy of the
: "Sent Items.dbx" file known to contain the
: deleted items?
