Well NTL is a pretty big provider and it's possible your friend's mail
server runs a spam blocking program that has NTL blacklisted.

Of course this hits innocent users as badly as it hits the spammers, and
there's no real way around it unless you either sign up for another email
account elsewhere.

Also My incoming mail does not download automatically as it did
before I
have to just click send/receive and click my default name then it
downloads..

Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, General: Is "Include this account
when
receiving or synchronizing checked?
