Default Bizarre MSIMN, and other problems

Hi Adam:

Again, all I can think of is to ask the question in a hardware newsgroup for
Windows 98 and see if they have any other suggestions. The requirement to
invoke TAPI services should be automatic if your modem is working as
intended. And if you've had recent storms in your area while the computer
was connected, (and it does not need to be "on") it's quite possible that
the modem is "fried." Modems are relatively inexpensive these days and
fairly simple to replace. If you have a friend who's handy with a computer
and a screwdriver, it might be worth trying. Sorry I can't think of any
other suggestion. Good luck.

Hardware related? That's possible, we did have a pretty bad storm aon
Wednesday, but the problem didn't show up until Saturday. Wierd.

As for local computer shops, there are several, but they all want me to
bring it in (and charge me $85-$95 just to look at it) and I can't
afford the downtime. Thus the reason I've been trying to find a
solution online.

Is there any chance at all that this could be a virus?

BTW Jim, thank you for the links. It didn't really help, because it
was XP oriented and I run 98SE, but thank you anyway.

Thanks agan,

Adam
