You need to select a Mail folder, then View, Layout, Preview Pane, Show
Preview Pane Header in order to see the paper clip for attachments. If
you select a News folder, then do the above, that applies to news
messages instead.
But, it sounds like you are doing that.
The other thing to make sure is that right edge of the window is not off
the screen.
Since you can get to the attachments if you open in their own window, it
appears that the attachments are arriving OK.
If you've got any anti-virus set to scan e-mail, disable the e-mail
scanning and see if that solves the problem.
Beyond that there might be some corruption, although you wouldn't expect
that one a new PC. You can try creating a new identity and see if it
works OK there.

After setting up OE on my friends new PC, transfering
everything from his old PC (settings, address book and
e-mails), there is a small but very annoying problem...
It's OE6 running on Windows XP MCE.
Everything works fine except that my friend can't
access attachments of the e-mail shown in the
Preview Pane.
When viewing an e-mail with attachments, there is
supposed to be a paper clip icon on the right hand
side of the header line in the preview pane.
But there is no icon so my friend can't access
the attachments unless he opens the e-mail in a
separate window.
On my own OE6 (on XP Pro) I do have the paper clip
icon so I can easily access the attachments directly
in the preview pane.
In the menu "View" - "Layout" I can enable or disable
the header line all together but I cannot format it in
any way. And right clicking on the header line has
no effect.
Is it possible to get this icon back somehow?
