The behavior was first introduced earlier this year with the 918766 patch.
We've been telling everyone here that this patch would be included in the
next Cumulative Update for OE: http://snipurl.com/156du

NB: With 923694 (MS06-076) installed, you do NOT need to install 918766, nor
would installing it succeed.

BAK files. (IMHO, this documentation and more should be spelled out in
