Help! I've spent 4 days on this. I'm trying to Import my Netscape
7.2 mail messages from another computer to a new computer, into
Outlook Express 6.0.
Everything I've tried, I get the message:
"No messages can be found in this folder or another application is
running that has the required files open. Please select another
folder or try closing applications that may have the files open."
I read the earlier posts about taking off the READ-ONLY attribute.
Every time I do this it's set back ON when I go back to the files and
folders. I have set EVERYTHING to be shared and all is coming up
READ-ONLY every time I manuall take it off. I have copied the folder
to my new computer and still can't import...
Please help ~ this is so frustrating and I have 5 years of older mail
messages I need to merge with my new computer and it's Outlook Express
messages...

You will need to install an earlier version of Netscape such as 4.5 or so.
Many Mozilla or NS beta users already have such on their computers so it's
usually not a problem. Then follow the instructions below:
1) Close all versions of Netscape completely.
2) Open C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Users50\"your profile
name"something.slt\Mail\"the mail account name"
3) Copy only the mail boxes not the msf files and paste these items onto
the
desktop.
4) Rename these boxes to unique mail folders names such as oldinbox6 or
oldsent6
5) Place these files into C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\"Your
profile"\Mail
6) Next time you launch Netscape Communicator with that profile your
Netscape 6 mail should be in the containers with the names you specified.
7) You can then import them into Outlook Express using
File/Import/Messages.
You can also install Eudora, import into Eudora from Netscape/Mozilla and
then import into Outlook Express from Eudora. Your choices.
