Default Outlook deleting mail from server, not downloading.

You say:

It obtains a list of mail

You mean the message headers? To, From, Subject, etc.?

here it should retrieve those, but does not. This is the problem! It
disconnects.

It disconnects after Send/Receive? Dial-up I presume? I'm really not clear
on how you can see a *list* of message, but not have them. Do you see this
list in the Preview Pane in the Inbox?

In Tools | Options | Connection, is Hang up after sending and receiving
checked?

In View | Current View. Is Show all messages checked?

Hello

I dont think you understood the problem - though I tried it, and it isd
the
same, no surpirse to me. The situation:

I ask it to recieve all mails from SMTP.

It connects to the server
It obtains a list of mail(s) (if so)
- here it should retrieve those, but does not. This is the problem!
It disconnects.
- here I should have a "new mail" sign&sound, but I get not, which is
partly
correct - it does not get ant _mails_ from the server, though it gets a
list,
which is never shown anywhere. Mails are gone.

The problem started accidently some 1-2 months ago.

Windows Updates include OE updates. Make sure you are fully patched.

Work on these issues:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move
your
mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while
working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything
until
the compacting is completed.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant
layer
of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such
as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will
continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background
and
leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}.

And backup often.

If you are using TrendMicro, that may also be a problem.

Hi

I have a problem with outlook express 6, that it downloads a list of
messages on the SMTP server, then it stops as normal, but
- it does not tell how many messages there are/were
- it does not download any messages
- it deletes the messages off the server
- it does not play any sound or show any sign, that it has downloaded
anything
- it does not show any error or anything.

Why this?

Everything else seems to work.

Would it be possible to update outlook ex by the internet, there is
"windows.update", but is there such a thing for outlook express?
