The Leave a copy on the server and Delete after xx days only apply for a
POP3 mail server.

The Delete after xx days only applies if you have checked the leave a
copy on server.

If you have Not checked the leave a copy on server, then messages are
deleted from the server after downloading.

If a message is not downloaded (e.g. not in the server Inbox which POP3
can access or you have a message rule with an action of down not
download), then the messages will remain on the server.
