I have infact tried a new set of drives for the canon Pixma IP2000, bu that
did work either.
As for the printing the rest of the system works fine, which I suppose
confirms that the fault is with IE/OE.
This is driving me nuts!

I would not recommend installing IE7 before you fix the problem.
Have you tried reinstalling the printer drivers?
What kind of printer is it?
