I am not familier with the process, although I use USB thumb drive for
file transfer. How do I set the OE to open the .dbx files
from a different place other than what OE normally uses for individual
users?
Create another identity in OE. Use OE's own help to figure that out.
Then specify that the message store for that new identify is in some
path on the thumb drive (go to Tools - Options - Maintenance - Store
Folder). That is where I changed my identity's store path to be on the
2nd hard drive (D
so I wouldn't lose my message store with a reformat
of C: when reinstalling Windows.
However make sure that (*each time*) your "USB thumb drive" is
*plugged in* (and *working*) *before* you try to access is with OE. If
you forget to do it, OE will create a new 'empty' message store on the
hard drive, and you will have import everything from the USB thumb
drive. That is cumbersome and somewhat risky, so it's better to prevent
it.
Same story for unplugging: *First* stop OE, or at least stop using the
special identity, and only *then* unplug the USB thumb drive.
For the nitty gritties, see the recent (Dec 28) thread "How Can I get
OE onto an External Drive ?"). That was about an USB hard disk, but the
issue is the same, that the 'drive' is removable/unpluggable.
