So that's what the "Copying {something}" message that's started
appearing when I compact means...
It sure slows down the compacting process but I suppose it's worth the
extra security.


I'd say it's a good trade off. They can be restored in minutes


Still it's all rather moot, isn't it? I mean what with WinMail replacing
OE in Vista, it's kind of like rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic
or something.

True, but since there are still people using everything in-between 9x and
XP, I think XP will still be used by many for quite some time. Who knows.
Vista may hit an iceberg. eg
