If the account's now working in the new identity...

(a) compact all folders in the old identity, (b) import messages from
the old identity into the new one (don't bother with any Hotmail
folders),
and then (c) delete the old one (File Identities Manage
Identities).

To avoid such problems in the futu

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items (local OE folders) to archive messages.
Move them to other local folders created for this purpose.

- Empty both Deleted Items folders daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More
at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not shut down your machine while Windows is
automatically compacting your message store.

- Though it does NOT scan your Hotmail, your anti-virus application's
email
scanning feature can also cause such corruption. Disable it. It
provides
no additional protection.

1. Make sure this update is installed:

Authentication fails when you use Outlook or Outlook Express to try to
log
on to a HTTP-based mail server if you use Internet Explorer version
7.0:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/904942

My Add/Remove list indicates that it was installed. Would you recommend
that I re-install that update?

2. If the behavior persists, see if Sending from the account works any
better in a new identity (OE File Identities Add new identity). If
it
does, (a) compact all folders in the old identity, (b) import messages
from
the old identity into the new one (don't bother with any Hotmail
folders),
and then (c) delete the old one (File Identities Manage
Identities).

Upon creation of a new identity, I was prompted to "download"
(synchronize
I
assume) files/folders. After I responded yes, I received the following
error...

An unknown error has occured.

Configuration:
Account: Hotmail
Server: http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp
User name:
Protocol: HTTPMail

I then sent a test message which appeared to send flawlessly. I logged
out,
then into the receiving identity and the message was there. Upon logging
back in to the "test" account, it immediately "synched" with my Hotmail
account.

Other than the initial glitch, it appears, at least for now, that the
new
"Hotmail" identity is functioning normally.

However, as I used all the default options, I'm now wondering if
changing
my
account options might be problematical in some way.

IE version?

IE7

Is this a sudden, new problem or an ongoing one?

I would have to guess that it pre-dates, by some time, my IE7 update.
I've
just not gotten around to trying to resolve the problem.

After composing an e-mail utilizing my "Hotmail Plus" account, I
receive
the following error...

"An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'XXXXX', Server:
'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol:
HTTPMail,
Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 12019, Error Number:
0x80004005"

Upon closing OE6, I receive a prompt alerting me to messages in my
outbox
and asking me if I wish to send. An affirmative reply results in
the
e-mail
being sent.

I'm using WinXP SP2, OE6, Hotmail Plus account and all updates
applied.

Why will OE6 only send successfuly upon closing the program?

TIA
