Default Unnamed "Fantom" Folder

I've been using AVG free for a few years. Twice I encountered a Trojan and
AVG removed it without my doing anything.

Thanks, Bruce. Unfortunately, there's a major problem with AVG Free: when
it
detects a threat (virus, worm, Trojan or spyware), it gives you only 30
seconds to do soemthing about it, and then lets the threat take its
malicious
action, whereas NAV disables the threat and freezes your system until you
decide what you want to do with it. Kind regards, Avner

You're welcome and glad you got it fixed.

An identity can become damaged for many reasons. The Main identity is
most
prone due to some extra registry entries. As soon as I set up a computer
I
create a new identity right off the bat.

Norton could very well be the cause. It has a history of screwing up OE
in
many ways. If I were you, I would get rid of it and don't replace it with
McAfee. That's a close second in incompatibility with OE.

I suggest AVG Free:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
or:
http://www.grisoft.com/doc/40/lng/ww

When prompted, choose Custom Installation and *uncheck* e-mail scanning
when
you see the option.

Norton, and McAfee, products are not Outlook Express friendly, and I
don't
know of any OE-MVP that would recommend using them.

Thanks, Bruce. Your suggestion has solved my problem. It was impossible
to
delete the folder in the message store because there was no DBX file
associated with it. How does an OE identity become damaged? Can it have
anything to do with ScanDBX? ScanDBX claims it is Norton AntiVirus's
fault.
Kind regards, Avner

Well, that's a new one. Did you try to delete it in the message store?

You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main
Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and
test
it.
If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the
old
identity and delete it.

My OE6 has an unnamed empty folder just above the Inbox folder. It
has
the
same icon as the Inbox folder, but cannot be deleted, moved or
renamed.
Does
anyone know of the cause of this problem and have a fix for it?
Thanks.
