Bruce,
Why all the links about hijackware? Are you saying the corruption is from
that? I thought OE was corruption prone anyway and that's why they changed
to Windows Mail in Vista w/ saving emails as eml files instead of dbx (which
are corruptioon prone).
In my initial post on this thread I said I was fully patched for XP Pro,
OE, and Office 2003 Pro. Use NIS 2007 & Spysweeper.
Would appreciate getting clarification on this question from prior posting
(thanks!):
QUESTION:
Does copying all dbx files to another area solve corruption issue? I ask b/c
this past week I copied all dbx files from older computer to this new one
and the TNR problem still exits. Did notice that identity folder in new PC
also ends in '9526' like old pC folder name did!
Thanks in advance for the help!!

Replied inline below. Make sure you are fully patched at Windows Updates.
However, if this happened on another computer, you most likely had
corruption and brought it with you.

Bruce,
Appreciate your guidance.
Using IE6 not IE7--not sure what you meant in item 2 in your reply.
Can you reply (via 'BH' intials placed) within the three points I listed
in
prior reply. I need to know specfically the answers to each item before I
go
ahead and change/select each setting and sub-settings.
Also, in those three points I listed below, I reference changing from West
Euro 'Windows' to Western Euro ISO, per your instructions from your
earlier
reply which instructed me to change from West Euro Windows to West Euro
ISO.
Accordingly, should I be changing to ISO?
If do exactly what I lised in below three points, restart computer, and
recipeients still get TNR and not Arial, if I create new identity, can I
use
a backup from Express Assist to load in all mail folders, address book,
mail
settings"? If not, do I first copy all dbx files, wab files, iaf files to
say C:\desktop\march07 (would create that subfolder) and import all
settings
in new identity from c:\desktop\march07?
Also does copying all dbx files to another area solve corruption issue?
I ask b/c this past week I copied all dbx files from older computer to
this
new one and the TNR problem still exits. Did notice that identity folder
in
new PC also ends in '9526' like old pC folder name did!
Thanks Bruce, for clarifying the above (and referenced below)!

I find it strange that you receive it OK when you send to yourself. If
someone is reading in Plain Text, then they will see the font of /their/
choice. The problem may not be on your end.
Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant
layer
of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and
causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes
and has even been responsible for lose of messages. Your up-to-date A/V
program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:

If all else fails:
You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main
Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test
it.
If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the
old
identity and delete it.

Thanks Bruce for offering your help--I apprecaite it!
I do use HTML. All recipents are getting all my emails as TNR 10 point,
whether they use OE, Outlook, Microsft Exchange, or webmail.
I'll try the change to West Euro ISO.
Bruce, before I do so, should I select the following three areas:
1) tools--options--send tab--'inyernational settings' button--west
euro
ISO--select 'when replying to mesages always use english headers' with
other
box unchecked?
BH: Western European Windows or ISO should work. Try changing it from what
it is to the other. And do check the English Headers box.
2: In IE7? Shouldn't affect this problem.
3: Encoding - Western European (ISO).
Default Encoding - Western European
2) tools--options-read tab-fonts-encoding--west euro ISO--and click on
'set
as default' button?
BH: 2: Encoding - Western European (ISO).
Default Encoding - Western European
3) tools---options-read tab--international settings button--default
encoding
select 'west euro ISO'--select check in box for 'use default encoding
for
all incoming messages'?
BH: Western European (ISO) should be displayed in a grayed out fashion and
the box unchecked.
The sent item box does show emails as arial 10 point. The weird thing
is
that if I cc: myself my copy shows Arial 10 point, but if someone
replies
to
an an email trail between us, my prior emails in that email do show as
TNR
10
point on my end.
I tried to be extra thorough in my description of problem in my below
posting, so you and your fellow Microsoft MVP's could remeedy the
problem
with Arial appearing as TNR on recipients.
Thanks very much for your assistance!!

I've always had my OE set to 'Arial 10 point' for composing/reading
emails
and I discovered (surprisingly) that going back as far as April 2006
(possibly earlier), all recipents of my emails are getting them as
Times
New
Roman 10 point (TNR) regardless of whether they use an email program
or
webmail. If I change default font to anything but Arial or TNR,
that
font
comes out OK on the recipents end (i.e. if I select Verdana as
default
it
comes out as Verdana on recipents email). Oddly enough, if I change
default
font to TNR, and manually select Arial when composing email, the
Arial
appears on recipients end.
Note, in my OE settings 'Read Fonts' are @ Western European Windows
(not
'ISO') for encoding, 'Send tab' shows International settings as
Western
European Windows (not ISO), Compose font as Arial 10 point. 'Read
tab'
has
for 'proportional font' is 'Arial'. The option 'use default
encoding
for
all incoming messages' is checked under "int'l settings button"
(West
European Windows). Note, in my OE settings 'Read Fonts' are @
Western
European Windows (not ISO) for encoding, Send tab shows
International
settings as Western European Windows (not ISO), Compose font as
Arial
10
point. Internet Explorer Encoding set to "Autoselect'.
When I tested this w/ a friend who also used OE and has SAME
settings
as
me
in OE, she said any emails I sent to her came/come out as 10 point
Times
New
Roman. Internet Explorer Encoding set to "Autoselect' (using IE6).
Another friend's emails to me (also sent via OE), was for a few days
being
shown with the words "central european" next to subject name on the
blue
toolbar of message border. But as the TNR 10 point is being
displayed
on
all recipients (and not Arial 10 point), regardless of whether they
use
an
email program or webmail, I don't think this temporary Central
European
tag
is essential to my problem.
I am (have always been) fully patched for XP Pro, OE, Office 2003
Pro
How can I fix my OE so all outgoing messages appear on recipents end
as
Arial 10-point (keep in mind that all recipents have always had
their
programs set as Arial 10 point for reading/composing)??
Thanks very much for helping me fix this!
