Which version of Outlook did you have in your old XP install?

Yes, it seems a portion of my post disappeared. I had installed Outlook
2007, opened my pst from the old XP installation and moved all of the
folders, contacts etc to the 2007 version in Vista. When I opened Windows
Mail, the first import I did was the contact which worked, although I did
have to export the file from Outlook as a csv file. I then imported all of
the messages without problem, including all of the folders etc. So, at this
point, it appeared that everything was working flawlessly BUT when I clicked
"import" and "mail account settings," I got the prompt that Windows Mail
couldn't find any e-mail program installed on the computer.
Thinking this odd, I ran another program I've used from time to time and
tried to import from Outlook to it and got the same prompt...that there was
no e-mail program on the system.
It also occurred to me that it might be possible that after starting to try
to setup Windows Mail, it might have made itself the default e-mail program
or something flukey like that so I went into the various setup areas to make
sure any and every where, Outlook 2007was shown as the default e-mail
program.
As I said, I'm totally clueless to imagine how this could be happening.

Is outlook installed on vista? that is a requirement for mail to be
outlook-aware.

I've been testing Vista via dual booting on my system and have run into
an odd thing with trying to have any other program access Outlook data.
For example, I wanted to take a look at how the Windows Mail program
worked and thought I'd import some or all of my e-mail accounts etc but
when I clicked import etc...it shows no other e-mail program installed.
Wondering if it might be a weakness of Windows Mail, I tried a similar
operation with another program with which I've imported from Outlook in
the XP world without problems.
Is there something about Outlook (meaning Outlook 2007) which prevents
other programs from "seeing" it as an e-mail program?
On the good news side, if sure runs a lot faster in Vista than it did in
XP!! ;-)
