Default Problem with Contacts

When you import Contacts, their email addresses are not resolved. You must
resolve those addresses before you can use the Contacts within the Outlook
Address Book Service. Open and save each Contact to resolve the address or
look into the third party applications that overcome Outlook's inability to
import Contacts.

A user had a system crash and only had a CSV file of their contacts &
distribution lists.

I had them to import the contact list into their new Outlook (2003) and
can verify that when you go to the Contacts link on the left hand side of
the page, you see all of his contacts.

When he set up a distribution list and added the specific users from his
contact list to that list, it allowed him to save the list.

However, when he goes to create an email message to this distribution
list, it'll pull up the distribution list with a + beside of it, yet, when
he goes to send the email or to click on the plus beside the list, he gets
the following:

"The name or distribution list has been deleted and is no longer a valid
Address Book entry. The operation failed. An Object could not be found."

It won't send email.

His contacts had been on the old computer when he had both Exchange and
Gmail on it, but we have since removed Exchange, and he uses gmail
exclusively.

Any idea as to what is going on?
