Error opening new messages in Outlook 2000
Running Windows 2000 Pro SP4 with Outlook 2000 SR-1a (didn't go to SR2 due
to Outlook Security restrictions) and Kaspersky Internet Security ver. 6.0
with Spam disabled and having no issues until this morning. When I try to
open a new email in my Inbox it tells me that Outlook has encountered an
error and is closing. This error doesn't occur with all messages and I can
find no pattern in the messages that do cause the error. I have noticed on
the messages that cause the error that their content is empty in the Preview
Pane. Any message opened in a folder other than the Inbox are fine. Here's a
list of the fixes I've tried based on Google searches for what worked for
others:
1. Reboot.. always the first place to start
2. Ran Scanpst.exe with no errors found.
3. Created a new PST file using Outlook /cleanpst and then reimported my old
PST file into the new one.
4. Deleted the QuickFindMRU registry key
5. Deleted the Extend.dat file
6. Deleted the Outcmd.dat file
7. Created a new Inbox folder called "Inbox-New" and then initiated a Rule
that would move all new messages to the new Inbox folder.
None of the above worked and I'm at my wits end. Any help would be GREATLY
appreciated.
