Default Junk Mail Filter does not work

Jim,

If you want to use either of the " or "contoso.com" formats you
have to go through the Blocked Senders list interface in the Junk E-mail
Options dialog box.I suggest you test this out for some of the more
problematic senders to see if this helps.

Can you attach the email header for a message (in your Inbox) from any one
of the senders on the Blocked Senders list?

Have you tried disabling your rules (if any)?

Have you tried the "Safe Lists Only" option on the Options tab of the Junk
E-mail Options dialog box?

To really test things out, you could:

1. Create a brand new Outlook profile (do NOT delete your original one)
2. Make sure the new profile uses a new .pst file (not your original one)
3. Manually add the original .pst file to the profile (File - Open - Outlook
Data File)
4. Use this new profile for a few days.

The Junk E-mail "lists" are stored in your default .pst file (and registry
in the profile settings) so this will test out any problems with the
original profile. If this works, then you can manually import your original
..pst data into your new .pst file.

Jim,

thanks for the additional information. I guess we can always assume these
email messages are getting spoofed and they really aren't coming from the
senders you think they are coming from.

JMK: SOME MAY BE, BUT I KNOW THAT MANY--MOST--ARE NOT.
If we don't assume they are getting spoofed, you can always try to block
the
entire domain. With Outlook 2007, you can block email addresses 3
different
ways:

- To block a single address in the domain, enter the specific address
). This is the method you are currently using.

JMK: YES

- To block all address from the parent domain, enter the blocked
"address"
in Outlook using the form ". This will block email from
, , etc. However, it will not block
email
from
.

JMK: IS THERE A WAY TO DO THIS BY CLICKING SOMEWHERE AS I DO WITH THE
ENTIRE
ADDRESS. I LOOKED FOR A PLACE TO CLICK AND COULD NOT FIND ONE. IF I HAD
TO
DO THIS ONE BY TYPING OR PASTING ONE BY ONE, IT WOULD BE EXCESSIVELY
BURDENSOME. ALO, OUT LOOK SAYS IT WILL PUT IDENTIFIED ADDRESS IN THE JUNK
MAIL FOLDER AND IT IS NOT DOING SO. CAN YOU SAY WHY?

- To block email from anyone at contoso.com (parent and child domains),
enter the blocked "address" in Outlook using the form "contoso.com". Note
the absence of the @ symbol. This will block email from
,
, AND , etc.

JMK: SAME COMMENT AS ABOVE.

So, you can try modifying your blocked list to see if that improves the
situation.

By the way, are any entries on your blocked list working as expected?

JMK: I AM NOT SURE. EVERY ONCE IN A HWILE--RARELY--I SEE AN EMAIL IN THE
INBOX THAT OULOOK PUT THERE INSTEAD OF ME BY CLIKING IT IN.

Jim,

- Which version of Outlook are you using?
OFFICE 2007
- If you are connecting to an Exchange server, are you in cached mode
or
online mode?
I DON'T USE EXCHANGE SERVER

- Can you give a example of the entry you have in the Blocked Senders
list
and the email address of an item that ends up in the Inbox (instead of
the
Junk E-mail folder)?
YES. HERE ARE JUST A FEW:
;
;
; ;

- Is there an explicit email address for this sender on the Safe
Senders
list? Do you see the domain for this sender listed in the Safe Senders
list?
NO AND NO

- Is the "Also trust email from my Contacts" option enabled on the
Safe
Senders tab? If so, is the sender listed in the Contacts folder?
YES AND NO

- Do all emails from this sender appear in the Inbox or do some of
them
get
moved to the Junk E-mail folder?

ALL. IN FACT IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE JUNK MAIL FILTER CATCHES VERY FEW
IF
ANY.

Email address on the blaocked list regularly are put in the inbox
and
not
in
the junk mail folder. Filter is set to the highest level.

What am I (or MS) doing wrong? How do I fix this?
