Default How to Change OE6 Print Defaults

Steve,

Unsure what you're referring to when you say "I don't understand why OETool
didn't have the same result.", but I assume you meant using OETool to open
the message Full Screen.

I'm probably overlooking something simple, but the reason I think it didn't
have the same result is that there is no way (that I can find) to Print if
using OETool to make the message Full Screen.

Regards,

John

Glad you found it useful. I don't understand why OETool didn't have the
same result.

cheers,

Steve,

Thanks a million! That is a brilliant 'workaround', and works like a
charm. Exactly what I've been looking for.

Not having the message headers is something I can live without, in most
instances at least.

Try saving the message to the desktop and then rename it from eml to mht.
Then it will open in IE and it might print okay. You won't have the
message headers though.

Again, thanks for the suggestions.

I had already tried your first idea, using Paste Special in Word 2003,
but there is only a blank area where the graphic should be; the text, as
expected, appears OK.

Think I'll go with your second option - sounds like the easiest and most
satisfactory. :-)

Instead of WordPad, try your word processing program. You may have to
use Edit | Paste Special.

OE will always print what you mention. I say this with a smile on my
face, but use 8½ / 14 paper and cut off the header & footer with a
paper cutter.

OE was never meant to be a classy e-mail program.

Bruce,

Thanks for your suggestion.

Actually, I had come to the conclusion that what you proposed was the
only way I could print the message without getting the 'Page ? of ?'
header and Date footer, but I was hopeful that someone new of a way to
do it in OE and thus avoid the extra steps involved in using an
additional program.

One major problem with this suggested 'workaround', of course, is that
if there is a required graphic in the message it is not copied when
using Edit, Select All (or the equivalent keyboard shortcuts). Unless
I am missing something, only the text can be copied for use in another
program such as Wordpad.

Your help and suggestions are appreciated,

Regards,

John

I thought you were also referring to the original message info.
Highlight the text you want printer, (best in an open window and not
the Preview Pane and copy/paste into WordPad. The page and date will
not print.

Bruce,

They are received messages.

The Page ? of ? in the upper right is what I was referring to as a
'header'; the 'footer' is the date, in the lower right.

Together they are what I would like to eliminate, but it seems from
what you have said that it's not possible.

I don't see that on my machine. Are these received messages, or
created messages?

If received, what I posted works for me.

If created, I save it to drafts and then use the Open Message
Fullscreen using this freeware tool. The only thing that prints
besides the text is Page ? of ? in the upper right, and about:blank
and the date at the bottom.

Bruce,

Thanks for the super prompt response.

I can set the margins and print size without difficulty, but would
really like to avoid the "added" header and footer.

By "added" I mean that they're not in the message, but get added
when a message is printed. It's not a printer option, but appears
to be done automatically by OE6. Because the header and footer
aren't visible, highlighting what I want printed and choosing
Selection doesn't help; header and footer are still both added
"automatically".

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion.

OE uses IE's print engine and there is not much to change besides
the margins and print size.

Every printer I have ever had did allow me to do this.

Highlight only what you want printed, start the printer and
choose Selection.

Could someone please tell me if it's possible to change Outlook
Express 6 print defaults. Specifically, I would like to be able
to print email messages without a header and footer (currently
'page x of y' and 'date' respectively).

If it is possible, some simple instructions would be most
welcome.

I would also like to be able to print without my 'user name'
showing in a bold font on the output, if there is some way of
achieving it.

TIA

Regards,

John
