Default Contacts in personal folders

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply, but I'm afraid I don't understand.
Why do I have two versions? And where are they? What is a delivery location
folder set? What is an Exchange mailbox? I'm not even sure how to open a
Personal Folders file! I'm self-employed, working from home. Is there
anywhere I can read about these things? - to save you having to offer a
tutorial.

I just noticed two options "Contacts" and "contacts in personal
folders". There are more items in the former. What's the difference?
I try to backup into something called "personal folders" (.pst) but
cannot open this (if I lost original). How do other people back up
their Outlook contents? I have struggled with this for a year. What
if i lost my laptop? I'd lose everything!

The "Contacts" folder is in your delivery location folder set (either an
Exchange mailbox or a Personal Folders file) and the other is in a different
Personal Folders file you're using.
