Default Outlook Express will not stay the default mail handler.

PA Bear,

Thank you. That solved the secondary problem with MAPI errors. I basically
removed the "Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings" profile, and put it back in.

I was only worried with Microsoft Outlook, since mailto links start up this
program. I occassionally use the Outlook organizer. Outlook Express is what
I use for email.

I had tried the other links you mentioned, including MVP Frank Saunders' two
links. I also verified that I am completely up to date.

I still get MO instead of OE when I click on mailto links (or press the
keyboard shortcut button for email). I am on Windows 2000 Professional.

Thanks,

Bob

MSOE.DLL is *not* Outlook Express (MSIMN.EXE) but one of its components.

Your (now) current problem with Outlook (OL) should be posted to an
OL-specific newsgroup...

(e.g., news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...utlook.general )

....though I don't see how running any of Dinesh's commands (which more or
less merely reassert IE as the default browser) would have caused the
problem.

Assuming it's OL 2002 (Office XP) with no OL or Office updates installed,
see this KB article before you post:

"MAPI was unable to load the information service Pstprx.dll" error message
when you upgrade to Office XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;293058

I'd guess that Method 2 or installing Office XP SP3 (no need to install SP1
and/or SP2) via Office Update
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/of...e/default.aspx) would be your
fix, but it's just a guess.

I'd also make sure the machine was fully up-to-date at Windows Update, as
well (i.e., all critical and recommended updates have been installed).

PA Bear,

I wished I had not executed that command! I did not see your message in
time. I now have some MAPI errors. Please see my reply to dineshrxg.

Just a minor annoyance that started recently. Nothing was installed, and
nothing unusual happened. Maybe an automatic update caused the problem.

Outlook Express will not stay as the default mail handler. I am using
Windows 2000 Professional. I have tried the following:

1. From OE's Tools menu, I clicked Make Default. They do not stay
changed.

2. From Internet Options, I changed the defaults to OE. They do not stay
changed.

3. From run, I registered OE with "/reg".

4. In regedit, I verified that the default is MSOE.DLL.
