Default Auto Respond

I could get either personal or group mail. However, I think it is resolved.
I think
the problem was that my testing and replying to myself. It appears my ISP
thinks that is sort of wierd and sends me an error message instead. I had
someone
else test it and they got the auto reply.
Thanks
Earl

I see. As you found, an auto reply won't work on a To field rule, and since
the From field will vary, I can't think of a way to do it automatically
unless the Subject was always the same. If it was a unique subject, then it
would be easy. Otherwise, maybe the sig would be the way to go.

The only other way, also manually, would be to create the reply message in
a new message window and then save it as a .txt file. When you got a
message, then you can Insert | Text from file and insert the saved reply.
That is how I save my /canned/ replies for the newsgroups.

If I can think of a way to do it automatically, I'll get back to you.

One more question. Do these senders /only/ send you messages regarding
this group, or whatever it is? Or do you get messages from them as
personal mail also?

Hmmm, maybe I didn't state the issue correctly. I have the Message Rule
to detect the TO field. The FROM/sender could be variable.
I selected the "Reply With Message" and included the text file I want
sent
back to sender.

I may have to do it manually, and if I do, it would probably be simpler
just
to create a Signature and insert that.

Create a message as per the Auto Reply link. The procedure will be
similar, but not For All Messages.

Create the rule:

Where the From line contains people
Reply with message & Stop processing more rules
Click People and enter the sender's address
Click Message and follow the instructions for inserting the message.

The sender will be the only one to see the reply.

The incoming message goes to 5 people. I will be the only one using
the
auto reply, and replying only to the sender.

Is this a message that is being sent to a group, but you want the
reply to go to only one person, or is the message sent to you alone
and you want to reply?

Yes, I want it as an Out of Office Type. I want it to reply only to
one specific
"To" address... i.e. addressed to a club's board of directors, to
inform the sender
that their mail will be reviewed and the type of response they can
expect.
It is not necessary that this action be taken immediately, so I would
think
it would not be necessary to stay connected with OE running, that
whenever
I check & download mail (frequently) would suffice.

The Away Status is for Instant Messaging. Are you looking for an Out
Of Office type of reply?

If you do this, you will have to leave your computer on 24/7, be
connected to the Internet, and have OE open. If you want do this
anyway, the link below will explain how to do it. One thing I would
suggest is that where it says to create a rule and check For All
Messages, you change it and make the rule for people in your address
book only. Otherwise you will be replying to Spam as well.

Your ISP may offer this service which would be a better choice.

IE/OE 7 - Windows XP
In message rules I set a rule to Reply With Message and included an
".eml" file. I get an
error "Your message rules did not Forward or Reply to 1 message(s)
because the message
would have been sent to one of your accounts." This sounds as
though the error is because
I sent myself a test and the reply is trying to send back to me
through that server. The ISP
is Charter.net. Could this be something that could be configured to
allow it?

Also, in OE7 Help, the "Away Status" indicates under Tools | My
Online Status... I don't
have that option in Tools.
