Default font style and size

I'm not sure exactly which text you are talking about.

To fix the font for list of messages, Select: Control Panel, Display,
Appearance (Advanced). In the Item drop down list, select Icon. Then
change the font and font size for Icon. A common font is MS Sans Serif
at a size of 8. Then Click Apply and OK. Restart the program.

However, that would apply to both mail and news folders.

To save the default Font and size that you see while reading/composing
plain text messages, you need to go into Tools, Options, Read, Fonts and
select the desired Proportional Font and size for Western Alphabet and
click Set as Default. To use a fixed width font, you need to select
such a font (e.g. Courier New) under the Proportional Font drop down
list (doesn't make much sense, but that's how it works). (Plain text
does not send font information. So what the recipient sees is not based
on what you used while composing.)

Again this applies to both mail and news. But it only applies to plain
text messages. For HTML format messages, the sender controls the font
(unless you select Tools, Options, Read, Read All messages in plain
text). The only difference for mail and news would be that HTML is more
common in mail than news.
