It's not stupid...

You don't mention the format of your pictures. If they are not already,
convert them to JPG or PNG. That will shrink the file size
significantly...depending on what the original format was (BMP or TIF
are usually very large files). Or you could reduce the resolution or
size of the picture and then convert. You would need a program like
Paint Shop Pro or PhotoShop Elements (there are others as well). I know
there are stand alone utilities that will just convert image formats but
no names come to mind as I don't use them (Google is your friend).

You could also try Zipping (WinZip) the pictures but depending on the
format, it may or may not make a difference. Format conversion is a
better approach.
