Default OE6 and Windows Desktop Search

winston,

Thank you for the information and advice. I do periodic full backups
with MS Backup. Would that be sufficient for the kind of problem you
encountered? Or is imaging software really necessary? I guess I am
curious about the nature of the problem that you encountered.

If its any consolation, I've had a properly configured Norton System
Works Professional/Premier edition(versions 2003 through 2006) using
OE and Outlook/Office(originally XP, now Office 2003) installed for
the last four years on this XP machine with multiple pop3 and http
accounts in both email clients without a single incompatibility issue
nor any incident amongst NSW/OE/Office/OL that required restoring an
image. One non email client issued did occur with the Norton
Protected Recycle bin that was corrected by restoring the prior week
image and installing the Symantec Shared Component update first and
separate from the other available updates.

For those that have problems it is extremely difficult to patch/repair
a Norton caused gone awry system, if you've not the NSW or Pro
versions it would still be wise to invest in imaging software(Acronis
or Ghost) to protect your investment and current stability.
