I was speaking of the last tab, Startup, not the first one, General. But,
hopefully you have it resolved. fingers crossed

I had a little problem last night, but I fixed it this AM. I did what you
said Bruce, everything in General was ticked, there was a disable and
enable.
I didn't want to disable everything, but evidently I did somehow. I had
highlighted Backup xxxxxxxxx, unticked it, and then I disabled. Restarted
and a window said I was in Diagnostic and something else, and I should
click restore. I just closed last night, I was too tired.
Then this AM the same window showed up so I chose Normal startup mode and
undo what I had done. etc., followed the instructions and I will know in a
day or two if it has disappeared forever.
I have all my icons back on the taskbar which had been removed by me last
night. I slept well anyway
Thanks Bruce, hope it works. I have used msconfig before.

I only have Outlook Express 6.0 and Internet Explorer 6.0
Both were backed up. I received most of my .Wab and ..DSN the one for
photo's from my digi camera in OE.
I back up both. XP was reinstalled and so was OE.
I have no idea which one it is supposed to be as both were backed up.
I will try what you said.
I have done disk cleanup, ccleaner, defragged, virus scans.... it remains
thanks Bruce

Is this an OE question? You didn't make that clear.
Is it in Start | Programs | Startup? (Not exactly how you said you did
it). Delete it there.
How about:
Start | Run and type:
msconfig
Choose the Startup tab and uncheck whatever program you are talking
about there.
If this is an Internet Explorer question:
For Internet Explorer questions not pertaining to Outlook Express,
please post to one of the following:

OS XP, IE6.0 OE6.0 PC 3-½ yrs old
If you have time someday, would you know how I can get rid of a backup
which keeps appearing even though I removed it in ADD/REMOVE. Every
day I have to remove it from Start UP/All programs, right click and
delete it. Then I exit it from my taskbar. It bothers me all the
time. The next day it appears again. I thought maybe it was in the
Task bar, looked in Display and clicked it but didn't see it, saw
nothing I understood.
I did write to the Company and to a gentleman that helped me to replace
my backup files, one said they would, the Company "No answer."
I used it back in January, for 30 days and then removed as I said
previously.
I know it's a holiday weekend, so whenever you have time. I'll watch
for your reply.
{I should say, the reason for the backup was a problem with XP SP 2
Home edition, I had D/L IE 7.0
and I used it for about 5 weeks I guess, when everything started
disappearing or not working. Even my delete key. CD Player didn't
work, Favourites were gone, so many things, I don't remember all.
I tried removing from ADD/Remove and before I called the PC company,
it was nearly finished, it couldn't continue as it said it didn't have
a 'eula.ch.ie' I don't remember exactly, but something like that.
It's been awhile. Nobody seemed to know what that window meant.
The company I bought the PC from connected and tried to fix it, they
couldn't, So I had to reinstall XP with their help and of course
everything was wiped out} TIA
