Default Outlook Express 6X

Hi Pa Bear.

I changed my account name to hutch309.2.
Can receive but cannot send.
Not sure what to do, prehaps use Netzero for all our mail and not use
Outlook Express. It's been a very frustration couple of days, as no matter
what I do, I cannot send in Outlook???
Very unhappy ,

According to
http://www.netzero.net/support/email...up-msoex5.html,
Step #13, the Account Name should NOT be the entire email address.

[I certainly hope you didn't post the /real/ address in your reply.]

Hi Pa Bear:

I have tried several things in the last couple of days: In fact I changed
things so I was not receiving e-mails into Outlook, but I am now. Changed
my
identity with another account, which did not send emails.

This is what I have done:
Click on tools Internet accounts
UNDER MAIL: I have pop.netzero.net --set as default
Click on Propertities MAIL ACCOUNT: pop.netzero.net
UNDER USER INFO:
Name:
E-mail...same
CLICK ON SERVERS:
Incoming; pop.netzero.net
Outgoing: authsmtp.netzero.net
ACCOUNT NAME:

Password ******
ADVANCE: Outgoing 25...Incoming 110

This is the current message I'm getting
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes
for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'pop.netzero.net', Server: 'authsmtp.netzero.net',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error

I have it set a 2 mins.
Mail comes in right away. I'm on Windows auto undate. same with Norton.
Whick I have the e-mail disabled.

Hutch, if your machine's fully patched at Windows Update, you have the
appropriate & fully-patched version of OE6 for Windows 2000; Furthermore,
reinstalling OE won't resolve the problem.

I did reply to your first post to this thread on 07 Sept-07 but it's not
appearing in my newsreader (OE) here. (The MS newsservers have been
suffering some problems lately.) See my reply in Google Groups archive
if
it's not appearing for you either:

I am assuming the account in question is a account. If
it's not, STOP HERE!

1. Disable NAV's Email Protection but *not* NAV itself.

2. Physically disconnect the machine from the internet.

3. Uninstall ZA Free.

4. Create a new OE identity (File Identities Add new identity) and
configure the
account in it per the instructions at
http://www.netzero.net/support/email...p-msoex5.html; Note Step
#13: the Account name entered should be "name", not ".

5. Reconnect to the internet and test the account's ability to Send and
Receive in this new identity. If necessary, Send yourself a message.

**Be careful! Without a firewall, don't do _anything_ else online except
testing the account!**

6. Whether Sending succeeded or not, immediately install a firewall (be
it
ZA Free, Comodo Free, or whatever) and configure it so that it's not
blocking Ports 25 and 110. [NB: If you connect via a router with a NAT
firewall, you might consider not using a third-party firewall like ZA or
Comodo.]

7. Assuming Sending and Receiving succeeds in the new identity: (a)
compact
all folders in the old identity, (b) import messages from the old
identity
into the new one, and then (c) delete the old one (File Identities
Manage Identities).

Hi Peter:
After you last instructions I realize that I do not have Outlook
Express.6
but just plain Outlook Express [6.00.2800.1807].

Secondly, after trying a number of sequence adding and deleting mail I
can
no long receive or send mail from Netzero. Since I'm having so much
trouble,
should I download a newer version of O.E? Will try later on today.

I'm not too keen on deleting Norton just yet. Have just disabled e-mail
coming and going and deleted Zonealarm. My laptop was sent back to HP
because the modem failed and it should be available the first of the
week.
I have the same programs on my laptop and would like to try it before
making an drastic changes.
Thank you for all your help and I will persevere.

Norton (AntiVirus): You needn't uninstall NAV, just disable it's
Email
Protection. It in fact provides no /additional/ protection and even
Symantec says it's not necessary:

QP
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against
viruses
that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus
Auto-Protect
scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including
email and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on
top
of this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum
protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to
ensure that you have the most recent virus definitions.

ZA: Assuming you're running ZA Free and that you do NOT have Norton
Internet Security of Norton 360 installed, you can (1) disable or
uninstall ZA Free, (2) enable the Windows Firewall and then (3) see
if
things improve. --
