Default What does this mean?

Thanks for this tip.

I knew this option was available but wasn't sure I wanted it to be
automatic.

You can avoid the behavior entirely and delete older messages faster using
this Message Rule: "Where the message was sent more than X days ago,
Delete it."

After getting the News rule set up, uncheck it in the list of rules (so
that it doesn't run automatically when downloading newsgroup posts) then
apply it manually when desired. You can have the rule act on an
individual newsgroup or the entire news account. For best reliability,
compact all OE folders after applying this rule.

Hmmm....

Well, that's not how I delete messages. I usually delete 100's, even
1000's
at a time. I always delete from a certain date to the last message. I
select
the first message to delete then scroll to the last message. Hold down
SHIFT, select the last message, then hit DELETE. *After* I've done this
is
when that dotted box appears (in addition to the other times it just
simply
appears for no reason). If I close OE then restart this dotted box is
gone.

It's not a problem (as far as I can tell), I would just like to know what
it
means?

If you hold down the Ctrl key to highlight the message headers you want
to
delete, clicking on a message header a second time so it is /not/
highlighted will cause that. Once you delete and then click on another
message header, the outline in dots should go away.

If I saw that, I'd assume OE's focus had been on that thread and it's
not
now.

Does this behavior seem to be causing or associated with any problems?

Hi Folks!

See this screencap:

Notice the one message enclosed in the dotted line box. What does that
mean?

This happens when I delete old messages but it also seems to happen
(every
now and then) when I do absolutely nothing.
