Distribution List by Category
Russ, this is just the advice I needed. Thank you. I found this post after 2
hours of trying to figure out how to make a Distribution List from the
Category field.
I did a test run by selecting a category and sending a message as per your
directions. I noticed the information from the "Display As" field (Firname
Surname + Email Address string) showed in the To: field for all recipients,
but after I checked the same message in my Sent box, only the Firname Surname
was visible in the To: field, each was enclosed in quotes and separated by a
semi colon, e.g. 'John Smith'; 'Mary Jones'; 'Tom Brown'; 'Ray Harp' .
As I'd already included myself in the category, I received a copy of the
email as well. This return copy didn't have the email addresses visible in
the To: field either, only the names in quotes mentioned above. Does this
sound right?
I've been reading many posts in here of people wanting to be rid of the
email address string in the To: field, but from my test, it only seems to be
visible prior to sending the email. If this is right, then I'm happy with
that. To print a hard copy of the email with all those emails addresses in
the headers makes for a larger document.

If a Category obviates the need of a DL, let me ask:
How can i use any Contacts' category to send an email right from
Outlook to every member of the given category?
(just like a DL)

There is no easy way to do this because creating Categories obviates the
need for DL's. Why do you think you need to do this?
