Default Can't Import .pst file

Did you ever have the trial version of Office 2007 on the new laptop? If yes, did you use Outlook 2007?

After furious head scratching, Goldlexus asked:

| Nope nothing more. I have not changed versions of the program like
| the error message indicates. I installed from the very same OfficeXP
| disks I had installed pre-reformat. I have done an Import/Export
| before using the same disks and method when I bought this laptop and
| transfered everything to it. I also did the Import/Export method when
| I did a reformat/clean install going from WindowsXP to Vista. No
| problems then either.
| Looks like I may be screwed?

|| Doesn't fit. What you did would not result in that error message.
|| There must be more to this story.

||| I have MS OfficeXP version 2002 running on Vista. It is the same

||||| No I don't. I thought backing my data up using the Import/Export
||||| was sufficient. I haven't had problems in the past.
||||| Stupid HP reformatted my harddrive to replace the motherboard. I
||||| backed up everything and have restored everything except Outlook.

|||||| Exporting and importing are never the correct way to transfer
|||||| Outlook data. They are a good way to corrupt or lose data, which
|||||| I suspect you have done. The only way to transfer Outlook data
|||||| is simply to make a copy of your Outlook data file. Do you have
|||||| a valid backup or copy of your Outlook data file?

||||||| I had to have my laptop repaired. It was suggested that I back
||||||| up everything before sending it in. So I did. I am now trying to
||||||| reinstall all the programs and data that was erased during the
||||||| repair. I backed up my Outlook (before repair) using the
||||||| Import/Export in Outlook and saved it on DVD. I have been
||||||| trying to restore the data but it wont let me. If I try to
||||||| Import from the DVD I get the message: "File access Denied: You
||||||| don't have the permission required to access the file
||||||| D:\Outlook.pst." Okay. Than I tried moving the file off of the
||||||| DVD into my Documents folder on my HD and tried again. Now I
||||||| get the message: "The File
||||||| c:\Users\username\Documents\Outlook.pst is not compatible with
||||||| this version of the Personal Folders information service.
||||||| Contact your administrator". How can I restore may data?
||||||| Nothing seems to be working.
