If all you are doing is using the simple find command, results will vary
considerably depending on which field you are searching. For more reliable
results use Advanced Find. Also, try your simple find after a restart.

How do you know it's there if you can't find it? Try a view that sorts
the
contacts alphabetically by File As. You should find it easily then.
