Default How do I silence "mail truck" sound

That would indicate that the EarthLink home page is configured to play
the sound if there are any new mail messages on the server. There's
likely a configuration option for your EarthLink home page to turn that
feature off.

I didn't have any Earthlink software on my computer. All I had was my
Earthlink homepage set as IE's homepage. What I decided to do was to
change my homepage to something else. I just sent myself an e-mail to
test it, and now when I open a new IE window, there is no "mail truck"
to be heard.

Thanks to everybody for their responses.

Uninstall the totally unnecessary Earthlink software and see if it
goes away. If you disabled a sound for "New Mail Notification" and
"Play a sound..." at OE Tools Options General, the sound is/was
not coming from OE.

Notifivation".
Not only that, but I also set the sound to (None). And I created a
new sound
scheme which should include the new setting of no sound for new
e-mail. But
despite all that, I still am forced to listen to the irritating
"mail truck"
when I open a new IE window, and another piece of spam has been sent
to me.

Hi Pud,

The new mail notification sound works for POP3 e-mail received in
Outlook
Express, not Internet Explorer. If you can clarify the
circumstances of
when
the sound of the "mail truck" is heard it should be possible to
direct you
to the right newsgroup for the question. Is your new mail sound
heard when
using Web-based e-mail? When you went to the Sounds Control Panel
did you
hear the "mail truck" when previewing the new mail sound?

Every time I open a new IE window, and another e-mail has arrived,
usually
spam, I get surprised by the "mail truck" sound. I tried to find
the sound
file and delete it, but I can't find it. I know I could turn my
speakers
off, but that ruins other sounds I want to hear.

I went to Control Panel/Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices/Change
the Sound
Scheme/Sounds/ went in the box and changed "New Mail Notification"
to
where
is does not have a cartoon of a speaker next to it, changed the box
below
that, where it says "Sounds" to (None), clicked "Apply", saved the
sound
scheme in the highest box within the "Sound and Audio Devices
Properties"
box and STILL I get that damn mail truck sound when I open IE and
mail has
arrived. This is really frustrating.
