Hopefully, you've considered this, but if the new identity
contains the "same mail properties as your identity for
incoming and outgoing email" there may be no incoming
mail to retrieve.

What do you mean by "cannot receive email"?

.. Can't connect/authorize/authenticate?
.. Can't retrieve mail known to exist for the specific
account?
