Disable In-Line Images in HTML E-mails
if the image is attached and embedded, there is nothing in outlook to block
them. do they display if you hit forward?
if the image is just attached, they will preview in the reading pane when
selected.

Is there an option yet to enable the embedded pictures to be shown within
the
text for OL2007?

Is it possible to disable images from appearing in the Outlook
2003/2007 Preview Pane, or more drastically, have the Preview Pane
work only in basic text mode?
There's a setting for that in OL2007 he Tools menu Trust Center
Automatic download. Check the "Don't Download...." box
Your suggestion works if a link was used to point at the image file on
some other host. If the image is inline (i.e., embedded) there is no
external link to fetch the image. As yet, the OP hasn't identified if
the images are linked (URL) or if they are attached
(disposition=attach) or inline (disposition=inline).
In OL2003, the option blocks linked images. Is there an option now in
OL2007 that also disables viewing of inline images until the user
selects to see it?
