Default Outlook 2007 vs WinForm client

Hi everyone,
We have been asked to update a communication solution for a company
with high level of incoming mails and faxes (approximately 1000 per
day). Faxes arrive as a tiff-file attached to an email.

The communication solution should allow the users to use special
features such as:
* Edit attached images and resend these
* Collaborate on a single message (e.g. I can see who already read
the mail I am looking at)
* Use advanced message filtering and searching (e.g. keywords on
message)
* Handling various message types (e.g. e-mail and fax) seamlessly -
this includes the preview pane
* Send/receive faxes
* Optimized workflows for high volume communication

The update includes a complete rewrite of the existing communication
solution and I am therefore trying to decide between extending Outlook
2007 or developing a WinForm client.

I am a newbie with regards to Outlook 2007 and hope that someone in
this forum could guide me in the right direction. I have earlier
developed a few addons for Outlook 2003, but found that there where
problems with performance - especially with high amount of data as
this application requires...

Thanks,
David Eliasen
