Default 1K Files in News Groups

Sorry, I just realized that this issue only occurs when a file is
attached. The problem manifests itself when in a newsgroup, such as
Paint Shop Pro, where a series of messages are posted with image
attachments. It becomes obvious that a jpg image can't be contained
in a 1KB file. Once the file is opened, the correct file size is
displayed when the image is saved. The file size that should be
displayed in the Outlook Express message header is the sum of the
message size plus all attachment sizes. It does not occur in a
newsgroup where there are mostly 1KB text files posted. Even when
the files sizes are all incorrectly displayed as 1 KB for a series
messages with photo attachments, there will be 1 or 2 that have the
correct file sizes displayed. I had this problem a year or so ago
but then it corrected itself after a few weeks. Now it has recurred
again.

Since the problem occurs in different newsgroups, it appears to be
related to the way my Outlook Express Newsgroup reader calculates
the size of the file plus attachments displayed in the message
header. (Not the sending client.)
I am hoping that someone had experienced this before.

About 50% of the message headers in this newsgroup show 1KB. What
leads you to believe they should be larger?

The file size as shown for each message in the message header is
1 KB. I get the same phenomenon in any newsgroup.

1K as in 1KB? Is this the size of the dbx files in the message
store, or are you seeing this somewhere else?

When I check news groups using Outlook Express (Win XP Pro,
IE-7), half the files are shown as 1K file size, when actually
they are larger. Anyone know the cause/fix? Any ideas
appreciated...!
