OE6 says it won't send but it keeps doing it?
OK. I went and played more with the new identity. The new one allows me to
send mail with no errors BUT it sends the mail to my old identity. So I then
imported all the messages from the old one. No problem. But when I went to
import the address book, it wants to know what part of my document folder it
is in? Huh? My address book is in OE6.
If I use a new identity for my same email address and I am switched over to
the new identity, why does all new mail go to my old identity?
Do I need to remove my old identity completely?
If yes, don't I need to import my address book first?
If I get everything imported over to my new identity, can I change the name
of it to my old name? Or do I need to create a new one with my old name and
spend a day trying to get it to work?

Did you find the message store for your current identity? When you delete a
default OE folder with OE closed, a new one is created when you open OE. It
is virtually impossible to have a message store without a dbx file for
Outbox and Sent Items. Please look harder and remember this:
Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of
your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the
location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write
the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.
In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options
Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

Did you delete both the Outbox and Sent Items? And was OE closed when you
did?
OE was closed when I deleted the Outbox.
I just tried to delete it again and the sent items but when I tried to
find
them, neither one exists as in 'cannot be found'. I tried to find them
with
OE closed and open and offline. WTF?
If you're sure it was done correctly, then try a new identity.
You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main
Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test
it.
If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the
old
identity and delete it.
I created a new identity. It wanted to know what the in and out servers
were. So I had to close out and find out what they were. Then I started
over
again. Successfully did it. Then I tried to forward the welcome to OE
email
and that failed because of the
port numbers. 25 and 110 are no longer valid. I had to switch back to my
other name and read the ports. 465 and 995 and both require a check mark.
So
I went back to my new identity and went to properties and changed the
ports.
Went to forward the email again to myself and I get an error message that
my
email address,
is not a valid email address! WTF,
that
IS my email address.
I have about had it with this crap......

Oh. So you did start your own thread as well as latching on to the
other.
I thought I should after hijacking the other one
Do the following for the Outbox, and if the problem persists, repeat
for
Sent Items after you move any messages you wish to save to a local
folder
you create.
Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location
of
your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put
the
location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise,
write
the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.
In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by
default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must
enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder
Options
Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.
With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question
{Outbox.dbx}
and delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open
OE.
Tried it all..... problem still comes up
General precautions for Outlook Express:
Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and
move
your
mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.
I do this.
I empty the deleted folder every time I read mail.
After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually
while
working *offline* and do it often.
Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders
are
open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything
until
the compacting is completed.
Did this also..... problem still there.
Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant
layer
of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems
such
as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program
will
continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3
I shut off AVG email scanner. Problem still there.
In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in
background
and
leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}.
Did this..... problem still there.

I have a send email problem that gives me a pop box that says there
is
an
error and read it below, but the box is empty. NO text.
I send an email, I click on send/receive to watch the progress, when
the
green bar reaches the end I get an error message. Then it tries to
send
the
message again, again an error message, but NO text to tell me what
the
error
is. I found out about this when a friend said he received 23 emails
in
a
row,
all the same. So I tried forwarding one to myself. Same thing,
sends,
ends,
says I have an error that is not there, starts to send again etc.
Meanwhile I
GET the email that it says it could not send. Then I get it again.
So I
go
to
the outbox, highlight the email and delete it. thus stops OE from
resending
it. Then I go to my sentbox and the messages I just got are NOT in
my
sentbox! Any ideas? This just started happening 2 days ago. I have
run
all
different spyware programs with no change. AVG says I have no virus.
I
just
tried system restore back to 9/20/07 but that did not help.
