hi brian. yep the check box is dimmed and i am using outlook 2003

Do you mean the "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" check box is
dimmed? This is a sign of a misconfigured Outlook Address Book service.
You tell us your Outlook version and we can tell you how to fix it.
