You need the full address in the rules.
OE won't delete anything unless you tell it to. Using the rules as
stated, for instance, if you were downloading your mail, it would leave
your wife's on the server ready for her to download on her machine. If
you then want to download ALL the mail to the laptop, configure all
three machines to leave a copy of message on server via
Toolsaccountsmailpropertiesadvanced and check the box at the bottom.
Configure both accounts as normal on the Laptop. Then ALL mail will be
downloaded. You can use message rules again to send the mail to
appropriate folders. If you do this, it would be advisable to choose on
both PC's to leave mail on the server for a set number of days, during
which you would download to the laptop. Otherwise your mailbox on the
server would fill up. (Not such a problem these days with larger
mailboxes.)
Using these rules and settings, it won't matter if you then switch on
the Laptop before either of your machines, or vice versa.
You CAN'T share OE over the network with just one store folder.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Kath - that partially answers my problem. I tried the don't
download route, but thought I only needed to put the alias bit as the
name to exclude - i.e'Robert' on Margaret's machine. Now going to try
' the full address assuming that is
more likely to work.
I presume the way it works is that OE6 deletes the message after the
first download ? That will still give me a problem when I hook up
the laptop, as I want to see any messages which are still in my inbox
on my PC - and will also need to file messages received on the laptop
in folders on the PC. I think I need to allow file sharing of OE6
local folders over the network, or something like that - am I trying
to do the impossible ?

Just putting together a 3 station (2 PC's, 1 laptop) wireless
network, all using a single broadband connection. Main PC for me,
second PC for my wife, and laptop for either of us.
Problem is that for OE6 I have set up two accounts, one for me (Bob)
and another for my wife (Margaret). I then deleted her account
)from my PC, leaving only
mine )
On her PC, I did the opposite, leaving one account - hers.
Doesn't work - I still get Emails for both of us - and she seems to
get a random selection, mostly mine ! By the way, 90% of the time
my machine is the only one in use.
So far I've not tried to connect the laptop, as I want to iron out
the system on the 2 PC's first.
What am I doing wrong ?
Courtesy of PA Bear - Use Message Rules to filter your mail where the
two addresses are aliases for the same mailbox. (As they will be if
you're with Freeserve as I am.)
E.g., and are aliases for one mailbox. In the
Identity associated with , on YOUR machine, create a
Message Rule stating, "Where To contains , Do not
download it from the server and Stop processing more rules" (The
last phrase is important!) and place this rule at the very top of
the list.
Then create a similar rule for the Identity associated with
, on your WIFE's machine, directing any messages
addressed to to not be downloaded from the server.
All should then be well.
