Simply download one of these, (I use Avast), and remove McAfee via the
Control Panel | Add/Remove programs.
I would suggest either Avast, (freeware), or NOD32, (not free).
In the case of Avast, choose Custom Installation and under Resident
Protection, uncheck: Internet Mail and Outlook/Exchange.

Do you have a suggestion as to what I could replace OE and McAfee
with...and how I would do that? Thanks for your earlier reply.

Upon opening OE, message at lower right says messages are being loaded.
I
get the musical sound saying it is completed yet there is no new email
in
the Inbox or in Spamkiller (McAfee). I also checked blocked mail and
the
webmail under my server AT&T which was empty (both the inbox and trash).
What else should I be checking to find what was downloaded?
Your ISP is "AT&T Worldnet", which is a completely different animal from
my
AT&T ("at&t Yahoo! HSI"). This is unfortunate because I have no
experience
with AT&T Worldnet.
I am with Bruce on this one. Lose McAfee. Anything McAfee is more trouble
than it is worth. I also gave up on MS Outlook Express as my primary
email
client because it is too weak in the filter rules department.
