Disappearing E-mail messages in Outlook 2007

Why?
I like to move certain sent e-mail messages to the inbox so I can follow up
to see if a reply has been received or not received. I find this convenient
to the way I do things. Also, I was afraid that e-mail messages left in the
Sent Items folder might be automatically deleted by the system.
I don't mind (too much) that my procedure is questioned without suggesting
answering my problem. I still would like hear whether Outlook has a problem
or whether the way I am doing things if causing the messages to disappear.
