John, now it works fine. Now when I open Macros and give it a Name, the
Create box comes to life. That didn't happen before.
I don't know why it didn't work before but the 'problem' went away on its
own, that plus I manually did the job that I wanted the macro to do anyway.

I assume you clicked Tools | Macro | New Macro to open the dialog.
Does the button remain grayed out after you give the new macro a name?
And does ALT+F11 open the VBA editor?
