Sounds like the cached installation files that were saved when you
last installed Office are corrupt or they were not saved at all to
begin with.

Either way, the only resolution I know is to do a total uninstall then
a clean re-install. Your preferences/configuration settings will still
be there.

If you are doing an installation from an install disc and you are
getting that error, then the install disc is bad. You might try to
copy the entire install folders/files to your hard drive/network drive
then install it from that location. But if you can't do that, then
you'll have to get a different installation disc altogether.
